Beschreibungen

"The History of Medicine among the Old and Modern Nations" is a book in the medicine, prepared by historian Issa Iskandar Al-Maalouf, dealing with multiple topics specializing in medicine, and the book was the outcome of two lectures delivered by the writer at the Medical Institute in Damascus, on the date of (4-18) March of the year 1919 AD. It dealt with the history of medicine since its existence to the days of the Arabs, and its origins during the era of the ancient Egyptians, where they succeeded in the field of embalming, and then talked about medicine among the Hebrews, whose medicine was confined to the priests, the legislators and the kings as it was in Egypt, because they quoted the industry from those countries. It took medicine for the Babylonians, the Assyrians and the Chaldeans, and among the Sakithis and Tatar, as he talked about medicine for the Persians, Indians and Chinese, the Turk, and the Ethiopians who took it from the Egyptian medicine that was popular in Africa, and they mixed it with their religions in the time of their ancient Ethiopian state. He talked about medicine for the Greeks, then he was raised by the Romans, Christians and Muslims. He explained the importance of studying medicine and anatomy in an annex of the book, explaining the definition of medicine, its sections and origins, and the most important terms of medical science.
